An M.Eng. capstone project can be a valuable resource, providing industry partners with a team of UC Berkeley master’s students for advancing existing product or research efforts, or exploring possible new directions. In addition, industry partners have the opportunity to get to know student team members for possible recruiting and Berkeley faculty for future collaborations.
Industry advisors can engage with capstone teams through two different project types.
- Virtual Internships (Closed Project) The Industry advisor sets the scope of work and direction, and the company supplies all resources needed for the project. The Industry Advisor would be the primary project lead, and paired with a UC Berkeley faculty advisor who would sign off on the project at its completion.
- Industry-University collaboration (Open Project): These projects are typically proposed and led by UC Berkeley faculty in collaboration with an existing industry partner. The capstone project could also be used to initiate a new collaboration with a faculty member in an area of mutual interest.
