Become a Partner

The UC Berkeley Master of Engineering (MEng) Capstone Partnership Program is a premier opportunity for organizations to collaborate with some of the brightest graduate engineering minds in the world.

We’ve had close to 15 years of providing an impactful Capstone learning experience with a diverse set of industry partners looking for cutting edge technical advancements. Spend a year with us broadening your exploratory work scope, forging long-term engineering student relationships, and connecting with UC Berkeley on a deeper level.

Capstone Projects

Gain fresh customer, design, and product insights as a MEng student team works on a topic of interest to your organization. The Capstone Marketplace (August) allows you to pitch your project to hundreds of students and work with the best and the brightest. The full range of the collaboration includes:

  • Strategic meeting with the Fung Institute Chief Innovation and Learning Officer
  • Participation in MEng Capstone Program (advising team of 3-5 students per project)
  • One-on-one project consults to launch projects and conduct mid-year checks
  • Ongoing staff and faculty support as needed
  • Annual Capstone Showcase (May)

Career & Recruitment

Meet and form relationships with UC Berkeley’s top graduate engineering students. Contribute to their academic and leadership growth while on your team – for project work or potential employment later.

  • Interdisciplinary cohort gives you a chance to recruit students from a variety of technical disciplines
  • Opportunity for internal leadership development / mentoring within your organization
  • Fung Institute Career Team collaboration including strategic meeting with Career Director
  • Priority access to: Fung Institute Resume Book, Summer Career Development Webinar Series, Leadership Lecture Series, Employer/ Recruitment Events

Communications & PR

Receive widespread organization recognition and visibility on the UC Berkeley campus and beyond through marketing materials and the Fung Institute website.

  • Your Capstone project, team, and success story will be featured on the Fung Institute website on a dedicated project web page
  • Fung Institute reporter will craft an article showcasing your project
  • Social media engagement

Our Capstone Partnership Program works with:

  • Your Engineering and R&D Teams to develop and match capstone projects
  • Your HR Team in student recruitment for internships and employment
  • Your Communications & PR Team for branding and increased visibility

To support these enhancements, for-profit organizations will now be asked to contribute up to $25,000 per matched capstone project. We encourage all organizations to participate, and provide a flexible sliding scale ranging from $0 to $25,000 based on organizational need.

Organizations interested in exploring reduced-cost options – please contact Dr. Jennifer Mangold, Chief Innovation and Learning Officer at the Fung Institute (jmangold@berkeley.edu).Together, we can ensure cost is never a barrier to fostering transformative partnerships that drive innovation forward.
