The UC Berkeley Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is widely acknowledged to be a national and international leader. In its latest national rankings, US News and World Report ranked both of CEE’s Civil Engineering graduate program as number one and the Environmental Engineering graduate program as number two. CEE research establishes and advances the intellectual foundations of new fields of study.
MEng in Civil & Environmental Engineering
The MEng program in Civil & Environmental Engineering places emphasis on Systems Engineering, which stresses the use of computational innovations for sensor networks, cloud computing, behavioral science, mobile communications and distributed parameter control to create entrepreneurial solutions for industries such as transportation, water, or energy. Transportation Systems are also central to the MEng program in CEE, and explore expanded surveillance, communication and computing technologies that are enabling unprecedented opportunities for developing and deploying innovation that benefits managers, service providers and system users. Examples include assessing impacts of future mobility systems involving automated vehicles, and smart utility systems for electric cooperatives. Transportation Strategies for Smart Cities
The Transportation Strategies for Smart Cities team worked on reducing delays by optimizing traffic signal sequences with sophisticated simulations of the street traffic conditions.
