After completing her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Neuroscience at the University of Washington, Lais entered the biotech industry as a research associate. Her work in analytical research & development placed her at the intersection of several teams, analyzing samples, qualifying protocols, and developing novel essays. She is passionate about sustainability and brought this to her workplace by giving a company-wide presentation on “Sustainability in Biotech Companies.” She then implemented a plastic take-back program, invested in novel reuse technologies, and co-founded the sustainability committee. Beyond bringing sustainability into biotech, Lais is also interested in applying bioengineering to climate change solutions. These include exciting new ventures such as plant-based meats and fertilizer alternatives. She is excited to introduce these future-oriented businesses as a co-lead of the Entrepreneurship & Start-ups affinity group.
