Staff Highlight: Adrienne Greer, Program Manager at the Fung Fellowship

December 28, 2018 by Berkeley Master of Engineering

by Dione Rivera

In our monthly Staff Highlight series, a staff member at Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership shares insights about their job search experience and career journey with Master of Engineering (MEng) students and Fung Fellows. This feature focuses on Adrienne Greer: Program Manager, Fung Fellowship for Wellness and Technology Innovations at UC Berkeley. Adrienne drives the overall academic student experience and assists in community engagement for the Fung Fellowship. We had a chance to sit with Adrienne and ask some questions about her career.

What was the best career advice you received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to cultivate and nurture my network throughout my career (not just when I am job searching) — this includes continuing to do informational interviews when someone or an organization inspire me and continuing to attend events or recruiting fairs.

What was your most memorable job search experience?

My most memorable job search experience was after graduate school, applying for what felt like an endless number of positions. I was looking and applying so intently and then an unsolicited opportunity was presented from one of my past colleagues that ended up being the perfect fit.

When did you realize your “Aha” moment in your career?

My “aha” moment happened when working in healthcare and seeing the impact of my work at a programmatic and organizational level impact real people and their patient experience. Through this, I realized I wanted to work both at the individual level, directly with people, and at the organizational level, working on systems and policies.

In retrospect, what is the career advice you would like to give to our MEng cohort and Fung Fellows?

Tap into your network and find ways to remain connected! Your network now will only continue to evolve and deepen as you and your colleagues continue throughout your careers. Adrienne Greer is a public health professional specializing in community-based program development and evaluation with a passion for innovation, design, and social impact. Connect with Adrienne.
