High in the sky: MEng students and SkyDeck startups come together for a night of networking

November 15, 2019 by Berkeley Master of Engineering

On Tuesday, October 15, 2019, Berkeley Master of Engineering students and startups from SkyDeck, UC Berkeley’s number one startup incubator, convened for a night of networking.

Arriving at the scenic top floor of the Chase Building in Downtown Berkeley just in time to appreciate the sunset, MEng students first heard presentations from the startups in attendance about their work and open roles, and then networked with the company representatives in an informal setting. Startups in attendance ranged from those working on making hearing aids more customizable (Concha Labs) to those developing more efficient energy storage (Coreshell Technologies). Many companies were also actively recruiting for open positions on their teams, from machine learning roles to web application development. “This event was a great opportunity for the innovative technology startups in SkyDeck to interact with Berkeley’s Master of Engineering students,” said Brian Bordley, Director of Deal Sourcing and Operations at the Berkeley SkyDeck Fund. “It was a lot of fun and because of the informal format, people were able to open up and be comfortable. People shared their experiences and stories.”
According to Julie McShane, Director of Career Development and Alumni Relations at the Fung Institute, the event was representative of “exactly the type of entrepreneurial culture and professional connections we aim to foster in the MEng program.
“These unique events allow students to not only potential find jobs and co-founders but also gain valuable insights from people in their area of interest,” said Julie.
