Jonathan is a creative, multi-talented, entrepreneurial minded, human-centric engineer with a passion for teaching, coaching, and mentoring. The focus for Jonathan is on architecting high performance environments through personal and team growth in the classroom, in the laboratory, and beyond.
After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2015 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Jonathan went on in the same program to complete his Masters and PhD focused on lower back pain and related cell and tissue biomechanics. While conducting research, Jonathan also prioritized teaching. He spent the entirety of his graduate student career at the Fung Institute as an award-winning graduate student instructor, then as an instructor team lead, and later as a curriculum designer. From day one in 2017, Jonathan was inspired by the high performing collaborative energy of the students and staff at Fung. In his current role as Academic Program Manager Jonathan strives to perpetuate that energy by shaping the student and staff experience and by expanding the Fung Institute’s services.
Jonathan shares Berkeley with his two brothers who are also UC Berkeley Engineering Alumni. In Berkeley and beyond, Jonathan strives to build community around him by cultivating shared experiences such as athletic events or community meals or both. When not working with the Fung Institute, you can often find Jonathan in a pack of cyclists or runners on their way to cook paella in an inspiring landscape.
