Brian Howell is currently a PhD student in the Multiphysics Simulation and Optimization Laboratory at in the Mechanical engineering. His research interests lie in non-convex optimization, numerical simulation, and materials science. His current work aims to develop optimization schemes for numerical simulations of non-Newtonian flow and UV-curing kinetics for additive manufacturing. Previously, he worked as a staff scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 4 1/2 years where he worked on simulation, optimization, hardware and chemical formulation for 3D printing, and at Google’s X the Moonshot Factory where he worked as an AI resident in materials optimization.
