Tarek Zohdi has been named the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership at UC Berkeley. His main duties are to build stronger technological interactions between the Fung Institute and the College of Engineering departments.
Tarek I. Zohdi received his PhD in 1997 in Computational and Applied Mathematics from the University at Texas at Austin and his Habilitation in General Mechanics (Allgemeine Mechanik) from the Gottfried Leibniz Universität, Hannover, Germany. Zohdi joined UC Berkeley department of Mechanical Engineering in 2001. He has served as Chair of the Engineering Science Program at UC Berkeley (2008–2012) and Vice-Chair for Instruction in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009–2012). He is currently Chairman of the UC Berkeley Designated Emphasis in Computation and Data Science and Engineering Program, Chancellor’s Professor and holder of the W. C. Hall Family Endowed Chair in Engineering. He also holds a Staff Scientist position at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs and an Adjunct Scientist position at the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. His main research interests are modeling and simulation of advanced manufacturing processes and 3D printing, with emphasis on micromechanical material design and particulate flows.
