Sam Pottinger, Senior Research Data Scientist and Software Engineer at the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Center for Data Science and Environment led a presentation on “Tackling the Global Plastic Crisis: Design to enable science to reach policy at the UN.” Sam shared valuable insights with the Conservation track fellows on how the reality of implementing an environmental conservation policy is different from an ideal linear process, and how concepts like the IKEA effect and using online interactive models can be helpful tools to the public and the decision makers.
