Community and industry partnerships are a centerpiece of the Fellowship program. These partnerships enable Fellows to deepen their understanding of populations served, engage in community research, and explore the possibilities for technology. Partnerships take many forms, from in-classroom discussions to student fieldwork, and internships.
We have established several models to engage with industry and are open to new ideas for building collaboration and connection within our community.
In the Classroom
These collaborations allow our Fellows to tackle real world problems and incorporate expertise from the community, academia, and industry. There are several ways that collaborators can engage in the classroom including as a guest speaker (in-person or virtually) discussing relevant work, mentoring Fellows’ design projects, and participating on a panel of judges at one of our pitch nights where teams present their health and technology concepts.
Each semester the Fellows participate in team-based design challenges to address a public health need in one of our target populations – youth, veterans, and older adults. We welcome partner organizations to pitch ideas for one of our design challenges, providing students the opportunity to work on current health concerns and technology for these communities.
We work with organizations to match students with internship opportunities. The goal of these internships is to allow students to gain valuable professional experience, build leadership skills, and utilize what they have learned in the classroom. As represented by the diverse background and skillset of our fellows we are interested in a broad range of internships from public policy to product development.
The following is a partial list of the many organizations and individuals that have helped to make the Fung Fellowship a success:
