Creating a safer laboratory environment for radiological workers by designing safer Radioactive Material Handling Mechanism (RaMHaM) containers used in non-destructive neutron beamline tomographic imaging research.
Los Alamos National Lab needs a container to transport radioactive spent fuel rodlets from Idaho National Lab to Los Alamos for scientific research. Without proper protection, direct contact with radioactive rodlets would cause fatal consequences. The project aims to design such a rodlet container (under NRC guidelines) for transportation and research purposes. The radiation shielding ability can better protect radiological workers on the project. The final product can aid both Los Alamos National Lab and Idaho National Lab in spent fuel neutron beamline tomographic research.
