Capstone projects should be primarily technical in nature. Students will analyze the broader business issues related to the project through assignments in separate capstone integration courses. Projects may involve students across any of the engineering departments and they may be interdisciplinary projects.
At least one Berkeley College of Engineering faculty member is required as the advisor for each project. Most successful projects have advisors that meet weekly with their student teams and provide mentorship, technical advice, and anysoftware and hardware resources or lab space required to meet the goals of the project. Many advisors have successfully used the capstone program for multi-year efforts, with projects started in one year continuing for one or more subsequent years supported by new teams of students with new project objectives, scope and deliverables.
